SINGAPORE – Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Medardo Antonio Macaraig told the Filipinos living and traveling in the city-state on Wednesday to ensure their vaccinations are up to date as Covid-19 cases increased due to the emergence of the FLiRT variant.
In an interview with the Philippine media delegation here, Macaraig provided reassurances about the current situation here and the measures in place.
“There is indeed a rise in cases but not yet to the point that it requires new advisories from the Singapore government. The primary guidance is to ensure vaccinations are current,” Macaraig said.
“Masks have been optional for a long time, and there has been no reported increase in hospitalizations or deaths,” he added.
The ambassador also mentioned that Singapore’s healthcare system, known for its high standards, continues to manage the situation effectively in the city-state.
“We follow Singapore’s guidelines closely. We don’t conduct our own studies but monitor what Singaporean health officials say,” Macaraig said.
Macaraig also mentioned that they haven’t received any reports of Filipinos who were infected by Covid-19.
For Filipinos planning to visit Singapore, the Ambassador reassured them that the situation is under control.
“It’s not like it’s a pandemic again. The risks here are the same as anywhere else. COVID-19 has become endemic. Some tourists prefer to wear masks even on airplanes, which is optional. Bringing masks and taking usual precautions is advisable, but there are no specific restrictions or new advisories.” (TCSP)
