The Makabayan bloc has called for the immediate resumption of the House Quad Committee investigation and the Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability hearings following the sworn statement of Ramil Lagunoy Madriaga.
Madriaga’s affidavit links Vice President Sara Duterte to alleged misuse of confidential funds, ties to POGO operators, and involvement in drug syndicates.
He detailed operations under Oplan Double Barrel, cash deliveries amounting to millions of pesos, and campaign funding allegedly sourced from gambling and narcotics networks.
“The involvement of military officers in what appears to be money laundering and campaign finance operations raises serious questions about the misuse of security personnel and resources,” the progressive solons said.
The bloc urged that hearings expand to probe political extrajudicial killings of activists and human rights defenders, citing the upcoming International Criminal Court pre-trial proceedings against former President Rodrigo Duterte.
Makabayan stressed that systematic attacks on progressive leaders, labor organizers, indigenous advocates, and journalists must be investigated alongside corruption allegations.
The bloc said Congress has a constitutional duty to hold accountable those implicated in Madriaga’s testimony and in political killings, asserting that “the Filipino people deserve answers, justice, and an end to impunity.” (ZIA LUNA)
