Various organizations led by Bayan President Renato Reyes Jr. announced that they will file a verified impeachment complaint against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on January 22 at 10 a.m. before the House of Representatives.

The complaint, endorsed by the three Makabayan bloc representatives, accuses the President of betrayal of public trust through alleged large-scale plunder of public funds.

According to Reyes, the complaint cites a scheme of presidential and congressional “allocations” for pet projects in the national budget, the abuse of unprogrammed appropriations to finance questionable infrastructure projects, and a system of kickbacks and “SOPs” coursed through top officials.

“These only demonstrate the President’s complicity in corruption. Lahat ng sangkot ay dapat managot, simula sa tuktok,” Reyes said in a statement.

The complainants include taxpayers, workers, farmers, students, teachers, urban poor, professionals, and anti-corruption advocates.

They expect the verified complaint to be transmitted to the Speaker and included in the order of business, warning against efforts to prioritize what they described as a “weak first complaint” that could shield the President.

If accepted, the filing will mark a significant challenge to the administration, as it faces allegations of systemic misuse of public funds and demands for accountability at the highest level of government.  (RRN)
