AT least 40 Davao cops – including seven station police chiefs were relieved from their posts over suspicion of extrajudicial killings behind the death of seven drug suspects in separate police anti-drug operations.
To fill the void, the Philippine National Police (PNP) sent members of its Special Action Force (SAF) on the same day that the order was issued, according to a news report which first came out on the NewslinePh web portal.
Relieved cops were reassigned to the Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Section of the Police Regional Office in Davao Region (PRO-XI) effective May 24.
But instead of sending a contingent equivalent to the number of relieved police officers, the report hinted on the arrival of two battalions on the same day, raising suspicion on the possibility of a massive manhunt operation against fugitive Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) founder Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.
Previously, the PNP has been at the receiving end of nasty remarks over the failure of Davao-based policemen to capture Quiboloy, who has reportedly been sighted in different locations in the Davao region.
Weeks ago, police personnel who were caught on cam during the Hugpong ng Maisug rally in Davao City have been transferred to Luzon for which the PNP explained that the move forms part of broader efforts to ensure impartiality and maintain order amid the escalating political friction between President Ferdinand Marcos Jr and his predecessor.
