468 strong aftershocks shudder  Surigao del Sur after 6.8 quake

AFTER being hit by a magnitude 6.8 earthquake, Surigao del Sur continued to sway as the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded strong aftershocks.

Data released by Phivolcs showed that the “strong  aftershocks” including one that was recorded at 6:21 yesterday morning reached up to 6.1 magnitude.

As of its latest bulletin Phivolcs said that at least 468 aftershocks rocked the province located 1,272.7 kilometers away from the National Capital Region.

Previously, Phivolcs claimed that the magnitude 6.8 earthquake – with a shallow depth of just nine kilometers, was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 9 kilometers. (ANGEL F. JOSE)
