Four in 10 Filipinos agree that Vice President Sara Duterte should be impeached, the Social Weather Stations (SWS) said on Wednesday, January 8.
A survey conducted by Stratbase group from December 12 to 18 showed that 41% of respondents support the impeachment of the Vice President. Meanwhile, 35% opposed it, and 19 percent were undecided.
The Vice President, who has faced criticism over the use of confidential funds by her offices, has had three impeachment complaints filed against her. Two of these complaints were submitted at the time the survey was conducted.
Support for Duterte’s impeachment is strongest in Balance Luzon, with 50% in favor, while it is lowest in Mindanao, the Vice President’s home region, where only 22% agree with the impeachment and 56% oppose it.
In the Visayas, 24% of respondents were undecided. Forty percent of those who are in the region support her impeachment, while 33% are opposed.
Fifty percent of respondents from socio-economic classes ABC are in favor of Duterte’s impeachment, while support is slightly lower among classes D and E, at 41 percent and 37 percent, respectively. Disagreement with the impeachment across these classes ranges from 34 to 36 percent.
“Results from the same survey also show that 46% of Filipinos believe that the unexplained spending of confidential and intelligence funds by the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education at 46% may be the best basis to impeach Duterte,” Stratbase said.
The survey, conducted from December 12 to 18, involved 2,160 adult respondents and has a margin of error of +/-2%. (TCSP)
